Suleiman publicly regretted the northern region’s support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections, stating, “The north made a mistake in voting Bola Tinubu to the presidency in 2023, and it is unlikely that they will repeat the same error in the future.”

Matawalle countered NEF’s influence, suggesting that the forum holds little sway over the broader political landscape of the region. He described NEF as a “political burden” and criticized its failure to engage constructively on issues affecting the north.

The minister questioned NEF’s attempt to undermine Tinubu’s “overwhelming” victory and criticized its lack of engagement with government officials addressing northern challenges.

Matawalle concluded that NEF’s refusal to accept reality and engage constructively demonstrates that it is “living in delusion.”
