Asue Ighodalo Allegedly Disagrees With Obaseki’s Sharing Formula As PDP Faces Fresh Crisis Ahead Of Edo Election
Certainly, these are challenging times for the PDP in Edo State as it navigates from one issue to another, threatening the very essence of the party. Last week saw the forced integration of legacy PDP members into Obaseki’s faction, a move orchestrated by the PDP NWC.
However, this alliance was swiftly disowned by Chief Dan Orbih, leader of the legacy group. As if the humiliation from the National Vice Chairman of the party wasn’t enough, the week concluded with Edo residents bravely taking to the streets to denounce the governor and the party.
They were indeed protesting what they perceived as Obaseki’s support for certain suspended chiefs who initiated legal actions against His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.
Currently, reports reaching our desk indicate another potential division within the party, reportedly arising from Obaseki’s requests concerning the campaign’s organization and the governance plan should the party be reelected as custodians of Dennis Osadebe Avenue.
Furthermore, there is concern regarding the composition of local government chairmen across the 18 LGAs of the state. It’s worth noting that Obaseki only conducted Local Government elections towards the end of his tenure. Allegedly, Obaseki is keenly interested in determining the successors of the current chairmen after their terms expire.
Additionally, a contentious matter concerns the continuation of Obaseki’s policies governing the state’s affairs and traditional institutions. According to our sources, certain demands may have encountered resistance from Asue Ighodalo, particularly due to perceived elements of inherent Godfatherism intertwined within the proposed arrangement.
According to the source, Ighodalo may not fully endorse all aspects of the arrangement proposed by Obaseki. However, he may find it necessary to maintain a low profile in order for the party to present a united front leading up to the elections.
Meanwhile, in street interviews, several respondents shared their thoughts on the rumored rift between the Governor and his chosen successor. Osagie Ekhator, a local trader, and Ifueko Omoregie, a community leader, expressed their concerns regarding the alleged discord between Obaseki and Ighodalo. They stressed that such conflicts could impede the state’s development if the PDP emerges victorious in the gubernatorial election.
Osagie Ekhator voiced, “As a resident of Edo State, I’m troubled by the ongoing tension between Obaseki and Ighodalo. If the PDP wins, it’s vital for them to collaborate for the state’s advancement.”
Ifueko Omoregie chimed in, “Although I’m not affiliated with any political party, it’s evident that unity is crucial for progress. Obaseki and Ighodalo must resolve their differences to ensure the state’s development remains uninterrupted.”
The unfolding events in the coming weeks will reveal the outcome of these developments. Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions on this trending topic by leaving your comments below.
