Breaking: INEC Announces Resumption Of Continuous Voter Registration In Edo And Ondo States

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the resumption of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Edo and Ondo states. The registration is open to eligible citizens who are not registered voters and those seeking to transfer their registration.

This announcement precedes the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states scheduled for September 21 and November 16, 2024, respectively.

The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this known during a consultative meeting with political party leaders ahead of the 2024 Edo and Ondo states governorship elections.

INEC Declares Deadline For Edo Guber Nomination Forms Submission

Yakubu revealed that the registration would take place at ward level and state headquarters instead of local government area offices and designated centers, as was previously done. The CVR in the two states will be conducted simultaneously from Monday, May 27, 2024, to Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm daily, including weekends.

He emphasized that the CVR is exclusively for new registrants and those wishing to transfer their registration, cautioning against double or multiple registrations, which are illegal. Lost or damaged voters’ cards will be replaced during the exercise without requiring fresh registration.

To accommodate the limited time before the governorship elections, registration will take place in 192 ward registration centers in Edo State and 203 centers in Ondo State, as well as at state offices in Benin City and Akure, totaling 397 walk-in registration centers in the two states. Due to time constraints, there will be no online pre-registration option.

Each center will be managed by two officials selected from regular staff and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The commission will soon begin the training of at least 794 officials for the exercise.

The locations of the registration centers and other relevant information have been compiled into a detailed 28-page document provided during the meeting. The same information will be uploaded to the INEC website and social media platforms for public information shortly.
