Former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has paid tribute to the late Kudirat Abiola, wife of MKO Abiola, on the 28th anniversary of her assassination, highlighting her pivotal role in Nigeria’s democracy.

Atiku described Kudirat Abiola as a symbol of democracy whose activism and leadership distinguished her as a heroine of all time in Nigeria. He emphasized that her sacrifices, particularly following the incarceration of MKO Abiola, were instrumental in symbolizing the struggle for democracy and the restoration of the June 12 mandate.

In a post shared on X, Atiku Abubakar stated, “The democracy we enjoy today was only made possible by the sacrifices of people like her, who paid the ultimate price.” He expressed his hope for her soul to continue resting in eternal peace.
