Osun APC Disowns Former-Governor Aregbesola, Cautions Against His Group (Details)
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially disowned former governor Rauf Aregbesola, citing his involvement in anti-party activities and the formation of groups working against the party’s interests.
In a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting at the state secretariat in Osogbo, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, the party’s chairman, emphasized that Aregbesola’s actions were detrimental to the APC’s objectives.
Lawal cautioned party members against affiliating with Aregbesola’s group, stating that it was not recognized by the APC. He urged members to refrain from registering with the ex-governor’s faction during the party’s electronic membership registration.
Echoing Lawal’s sentiments, the APC secretary in the state, Kamoru Alao, emphasized that Aregbesola was no longer considered a member of the APC in Osun State. Alao highlighted the party’s intention to commence electronic membership registration after the inauguration of a committee by National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
In response to the allegations, the Publicity Secretary of Omoluabi Progressives, Abosede Oluwaseun, defended Aregbesola, dismissing the anti-party claims. Oluwaseun asserted that the former governor had left the APC’s affairs in Osun State intact upon his departure, implying that subsequent issues arose under new leadership.
Oluwaseun also referenced failed attempts to suspend Aregbesola in his ward, emphasizing the commitment of Aregbesola’s group to reposition the APC in Osun State ahead of the 2026 elections.
The dispute underscores the internal divisions within the Osun APC and reflects broader challenges faced by political parties in managing dissent and maintaining unity.
