Heartbreaking Attack In Borno: Female Bomber With Baby Targets Wedding, Dozens Dead

Tragedy struck in Gwoza, Borno State, as a female suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a wedding, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries. The bomber, carrying a baby on her back, infiltrated the wedding venue in Tashan Mararaba near the Fire Service in Gwoza town and set off the IED on Saturday.

The exact number of casualties remains unknown, but many of the injured are receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Gwoza. A security source informed Daily Trust that there were twin blasts: the first in the Hausari area and the second in Mararaba, a location known for bicycle and item sales.

Soldiers have now taken control of the streets of Gwoza.

In a related incident, another bomber, disguised as a mourner, detonated an explosive device during preparations for the funeral of the initial attack victims. This second blast killed at least one person and injured 16 others, who were quickly transported to the hospital.

Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama reported that the victims, all civilians, were gathered to pay their respects when the attack occurred.

In response to the attacks, the military has imposed a curfew in Gwoza to facilitate the sanitization of the town and prevent further threats.
