Police Sergeant Under Influence Shoots Father To Dead In Maiduguri
A tragic incident unfolded in the Tudu neighborhood of Maduganari village, near the Borno State Police Command offices in Maiduguri, when a police sergeant, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, shot and killed his father.
Sergeant Linus Wadzani, a member of Mopol 6, Maiduguri’s Mobile Police unit responsible for protecting the Borno State House of Assembly, shot his father multiple times with an AK-47. The deceased, a retired assistant superintendent of police, had previously worked at the state command with the mounted unit.
According to a statement from the Borno State Police Command spokesman, Kenneth Daso, the incident occurred when Sergeant Linus returned home around 4:30 PM and got into a heated argument with his father. The altercation escalated, leading Linus to shoot his father multiple times, resulting in his immediate death.
A police patrol team responded swiftly to a distress call from a family member and secured the scene. During questioning, Sergeant Linus admitted to being under the influence of strong drugs and alcohol.
The Borno State Police Command has assembled a forensic team to assess the sergeant’s mental state, and blood samples have been taken. A homicide investigation is now underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
The police command extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ensure justice is served.
