Edo South Patriotic Forum Blasts Obaseki’s “Do or Die” Election Threat, Warns of State Crisis
At a recent PDP mega rally, Governor Godwin Obaseki shocked many by declaring the upcoming Edo gubernatorial election a “do or die” affair. This statement has ignited a strong reaction from the Edo South Patriotic Forum (ESPF), a key Benin-based organization dedicated to the region’s well-being and stability.
The ESPF, led by Chief Emmanuel Aigbe, has sharply condemned Obaseki’s remarks. Chief Aigbe described the Governor’s words as dangerously provocative and irresponsible. “Obaseki’s ‘do or die’ rhetoric is not just a reckless outburst—it’s a serious threat that could lead to widespread violence and disorder,” he asserted.
The ESPF highlights several critical concerns arising from Obaseki’s statements:
- Potential for Violence: Such incendiary comments could incite violence from militant factions, putting countless lives in jeopardy.
- Voter Coercion: The fear of violence might discourage citizens from voting, skewing the democratic process and undermining election fairness.
- Community Instability: The atmosphere of fear and tension created by these statements could lead to significant unrest, disrupting the lives of everyday citizens and destabilizing the region.
The ESPF is alarmed that the PDP might be attempting to exploit this volatile situation to sabotage the democratic process. The group believes this strategy aims to create chaos and manipulate the electoral outcome through intimidation rather than through fair competition.
In response, the ESPF is calling for immediate intervention to protect the citizens of Edo State. They urge all stakeholders to reject such inflammatory rhetoric and to work together to ensure a safe and transparent electoral process.
Chief Emmanuel Aigbe and the Edo South Patriotic Forum are committed to maintaining peace and safeguarding the democratic rights of Edo residents during this pivotal election period.
