Obi’s statement drew sharp criticism from Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who accused him of making unfounded accusations against the APC and its supporters. Morka suggested that Obi is being overly sanctimonious and should allow his legal team to manage his tribunal case.

Despite the backlash, Obi remains steadfast in his commitment to speaking out, emphasizing his belief that Nigeria is straying toward undemocratic practices and increasing authoritarianism.

In his renewed New Year message shared online, Obi encourages Nigerians to reflect on whether he has indeed crossed any lines and invites constructive criticism.

In his statement, he expressed:

“I ask this question because my New Year message has resulted in threats against my life, my family, and those close to me. While I have received various messages, Mr. Felix Morka has gone as far as to claim I have ‘crossed the line’ and warned of consequences.

I find it vital to reiterate my message and urge those who haven’t seen it to do so:

If I have truly overstepped my bounds, I welcome anyone to highlight where I went wrong, as I remain dedicated to maintaining decorum.

Nonetheless, I refuse to be silenced in my commitment to speaking the truth, especially as our nation veers toward undemocratic governance.

We are gradually becoming an authoritarian and repressive regime where freedom of expression is being systematically curtailed.

May God guide us in creating a more just and liberated society for our children’s future.
