Sexual Harassment Allegation Against Akpabio: Solomon Adeola Responds

Adeola emphasized that Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator from Kogi Central, cannot place herself above the Senate. He added that the action to suspend her was in line with the Senate’s standing orders, noting that Akpoti-Uduaghan did not exhaust internal mechanisms before filing a lawsuit against Akpabio and the Senate.

Adeola reiterated that the Senate, as an institution, derives its power from the Constitution and the Legislative Powers and Privileges Act of 2018, which grants the body autonomy to manage its affairs without judicial interference. He called on the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to resist any external pressure to undermine the authority of the Nigerian Parliament.

As it stands, Akpoti-Uduaghan remains suspended until she fulfills the conditions for her suspension to be reconsidered or a court ruling determines otherwise.
