Health authorities in Cross River State have confirmed a fresh case of COVID-19 involving a foreign national working in the state. According to Ireporter Online, the patient, a Chinese expatriate employed by Lafarge, recently arrived in Nigeria before developing symptoms consistent with the virus.

The State Commissioner for Health, Henry Ayuk, disclosed that the individual entered the country on March 17 and later fell ill, prompting medical intervention. He noted that the patient’s condition initially deteriorated while receiving care at a health facility, leading to his transfer to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, where further evaluation and testing were conducted in line with established health protocols.

Results from the hospital confirmed the infection, after which appropriate containment and treatment measures were immediately activated. The commissioner, however, assured that the patient has responded well to treatment and is currently in stable condition.

He further emphasized that the state’s health system has been reinforced to effectively manage potential outbreaks, highlighting the presence of robust surveillance and containment mechanisms designed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

The 53-year-old patient, who operates in Akamkpa Local Government Area, is said to be receiving care in accordance with standard medical guidelines. Authorities reiterated that there is no cause for public concern, assuring residents that all necessary steps have been taken to safeguard public health.
