EFCC Charges Woman For N6.8 Million Romance Scam In Borno
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Catherine Ijeoma Ugwu before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri for allegedly defrauding Emmanuel Ani of N6.8 million through a romance scam. Ugwu faces a four-count charge, including obtaining by false pretence, criminal misappropriation, and cheating by impersonation. She allegedly deceived Ani by pretending to be his fiancée, “Miss Chinansa,” and convinced him to send money for her upkeep………..READ MORE
Ugwu pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court adjourned the case to April 8, 2025, for trial and remanded Ugwu in a correctional centre. The EFCC’s investigation revealed that Ugwu was unable to account for or return the money when confronted by the victim.
