Fani-Kayode Commends Tinubu for Declaring State of Emergency in Rivers, Says It Will Restore Sanity

Former Nigerian Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has praised President Bola Tinubu for declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State. According to Fani-Kayode, the state of emergency was necessary because the parties involved in the political crisis had refused to stop fighting, and the situation was escalating.

Fani-Kayode explained that when children refuse to stop fighting, the father must intervene to prevent further destruction, likening the situation to a family dispute. He commended the bold move by Tinubu, stating that it would restore peace and sanity to the state and bring the key players involved in the conflict back to their senses.

The declaration, made by President Tinubu during a nationwide broadcast on March 18, 2025, also saw the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months. Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.

Fani-Kayode’s reaction highlights his support for the President’s decision, emphasizing the need for intervention to prevent further chaos in the state.
