Army Captures Senior Commander Of Notorious Islamic Group With Weapons And Cash
The Nigerien Army has reportedly apprehended a suspected high-ranking member of the terrorist organization Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin (JNIM) in the Tillabéri region. According to notable security analyst Zagazola Makama, the arrest yielded firearms, cash, and supplies believed to be intended for terrorist operations.
In its operational update covering April 3 to April 5, the army confirmed that the suspect was apprehended on April 3 around 6:30 p.m. while driving on the Torodi–Niamey route.
Military sources indicate that a search of the vehicle uncovered a firearm, several mobile phones, and a total of 5,032,900 CFA francs, suspected to have been allocated for logistical support related to terrorist activities.
Further investigations led troops to a garden owned by the suspect in the village of Boborgou, which was reportedly used as a logistical base by armed groups. The search uncovered food supplies, communication airtime, clothing, and black fabric believed to be intended for concealment.
Additionally, a significant stock of pasta was discovered in a nearby school building, which is thought to have been meant to sustain active terrorist operatives in the area.
The army has also noted the suspect’s links to the hijacking of two vehicles that took place between Makalondi and Niaktiré on April 2.
These ongoing security operations are part of a broader initiative focused on dismantling terrorist networks and restoring stability in the region.
