In a statement issued Friday, Ndume, a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army and an indigene of Gwoza, expressed deep sorrow over the continued wave of insurgent attacks, particularly in Borno South, North, and Central senatorial zones. He commended Brigadier General Nasir Abdullahi, Commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade, and his troops for their bravery in repelling repeated strikes on Gwoza, once a stronghold of Boko Haram.

Yamtake, situated along the Gwoza–Damboa Road, just 14 kilometers from Gwoza town, came under attack Thursday night, causing panic and forcing newly resettled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to flee once again.

“It’s heartbreaking that our people in Yamtake, recently resettled, suffered another deadly invasion. Two gallant soldiers laid down their lives, along with innocent civilians. May their souls rest in peace,” Ndume said.

While acknowledging the valiant efforts of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), local hunters, and vigilantes, Ndume emphasized the urgent need to establish an Armed Community Defence Force to bolster the military’s counter-insurgency efforts. He lamented that these community forces remain under-resourced and poorly equipped for the task.

“Our local defenders are doing their best but lack the firepower needed. We must urgently create an Armed Community Defence Force to work in synergy with the military,” he added.
