Reckoning Time: Police Leadership Takes Firm Stand Against Unprofessionalism

The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it has identified officers featured in viral videos exhibiting unprofessional conduct while on duty and has summoned them for disciplinary action.

A statement released on Wednesday night via the official account of the Nigeria Police revealed that the officers in question are from the Zone 5 Zonal Counter-Terrorism Unit (ZCA).

According to reports, the officers have been summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja and are currently undergoing an orderly room trial.

The statement further mentioned that another officer, captured in a viral video on Monday, May 5, 2025, displaying behavior inconsistent with the Nigeria Police Force’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), has been identified and called in for questioning at the Force Headquarters. This officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Traffic (AST), has received an official query regarding his unprofessional and uncivil conduct.

The Nigeria Police Force emphasized its commitment to upholding professional behavior among all personnel.

“Following a viral video posted on April 26th showing the unprofessional behavior of certain officers in Benin City, the Nigeria Police Force swiftly identified the officers involved and initiated disciplinary measures,” the statement said.

“In response to multiple complaints regarding high-handedness by some operatives along Airport Road in Benin, the officers identified are personnel from the Zone 5 Zonal Counter-Terrorism Unit (ZCA). They have been summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where they have been undergoing an orderly room trial as part of the standard police disciplinary process.

“Similarly, an Assistant Superintendent of Traffic (AST) captured in a viral video on May 5th, 2025, demonstrating behavior contrary to the SOP of the Nigeria Police Force, has been identified and summoned to Abuja. He has also been officially issued a query for his unprofessional conduct.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to ensuring transparency and accountability. The public will be kept informed as the disciplinary process progresses.

“We appreciate citizens for voicing their concerns and reinforcing the professional standards expected of our officers. Your input is crucial in helping us improve service delivery,” the statement concluded.
