United States President Donald Trump has issued a new proclamation restricting entry into the country for citizens from 12 nations, including 10 from Africa.

According to a White House statement released Wednesday, the travel ban is grounded in national security concerns and takes effect immediately starting Monday.

The proclamation identifies the affected countries as having “inadequate screening and vetting procedures,” deeming them a potential security threat to the United States.

The listed nations include Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, Republic of the Congo, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, and Yemen.

“This move underscores the President’s firm stance on protecting America from foreign terrorist threats and other national security challenges,” the White House emphasized.

In addition to the full ban, the proclamation imposes partial restrictions on travelers from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela, citing a high level of risk associated with those countries.

However, exceptions apply for individuals who are lawful permanent residents, possess valid visas, or fall under certain visa categories, as clarified by the White House.
