Woman Dies as Toyota Tundra Rams into Pedestrian Walkway in Ipaja
A tragic accident in the Ipaja area of Lagos State has claimed the life of a female pedestrian after a speeding vehicle lost control and veered off the road. The incident occurred at the Mosalasi Roundabout along New Ipaja Road.
Reports indicate that the black Toyota Tundra, bearing registration number FST 222 HV, was traveling at an excessive speed when the driver lost control, mounted the pedestrian walkway, and struck the victim. The woman died instantly from the impact.
The vehicle continued its destructive path into a nearby livestock business, damaging the perimeter fence and a large billboard. Eyewitnesses say the driver tried to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). He was handed over to the Gowon Estate Police Command for further investigation.
The deceased’s remains were transferred to the Nigeria Police Force for necessary procedures, while the driver remains in custody.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and highlighted the incident as a grim reminder of the deadly consequences of reckless driving. He urged motorists to prioritize safety checks, particularly on their braking systems, to prevent similar tragedies.
