[BREAKING]: Lawan Vs Machina: Appeal Court Confirms Authentic Candidate For Yobe North

Bashir Sheriff Machina has been confirmed as the legitimate All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

The court upheld the decision of the Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, Yobe State, that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, is not the APC candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District in next year’s election to the National Assembly.

According to the court, Mr Lawan did not participate in the APC’s legally recognized primary election to select its candidate for the election on May 28, 2022.

In ruling on the President of the Senate’s appeal, a three-judge panel of the appellate court led by justice Monica Dongban-Mensem ruled that the party’s primary election on June 9th was invalid because it violated the constitution.

Although the law requires the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor party primaries, the primaries on June 9th were not monitored by the electoral commission.

The APC filed an appeal with the appellate court, preferring candidate Ahmed Lawan but failing to make him a co-appellant.

Mr Lawan appeared in the case as the second respondent, indicating that he and the APC were working against each other while attempting to achieve a goal.

The appeal is meritless because it fails entirely.

The appellant (APC)is to pay the first respondent (Bashir Sheriff) N1 million in costs.
