Ajaokuta Lawmaker Tapped To Lead National Offensive Against Rampant Illegal Mining

The Member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, has been appointed Chairman of the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on Illegal Mining, a development described as pivotal in the fight against resource-related crimes.

According to IReporter Online, the announcement was made by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, during plenary on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.

The decision places Hon. Abdulraheem at the helm of a committee expected to tackle the growing threat of illegal mining across the country.

Hon. Abdulraheem, while addressing journalists shortly after the plenary, expressed gratitude to the Speaker and the House leadership for the confidence reposed in him.

He described the appointment as a national call to service and pledged to lead with transparency, resolve, and patriotic zeal.

“In the course of handling emerging national matters before the House, I have been appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee on Illegal Mining,” he announced.

“I deeply appreciate the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, and the entire leadership and members of the House of Representatives for their trust and confidence in my capacity to lead this critical assignment.”

According to IReporter Online, Hon. Abdulraheem assured the public that he would not take the responsibility lightly.

He emphasized that the committee would focus on safeguarding Nigeria’s mineral wealth, promoting lawful resource management, and advancing sustainable development.

“This responsibility is one I do not take lightly. I assure the House, and indeed the good people of Nigeria, that I will discharge this duty with diligence, integrity, and unwavering commitment. That which is expected of me will, by God’s grace, be done,” he affirmed.

He called on fellow lawmakers, stakeholders, and citizens to join efforts in combating the scourge of illegal mining and environmental exploitation.

“Let us work together to protect our natural resources, uphold the law, and secure a better future for all,” he concluded.
