Residents of Ohatekwe Ukawu in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have reportedly banished a 20-year-old man, Damian Oforbuike, for allegedly killing his mother. According to Ireporter Online, the incident, which took place over the weekend, has left the community in shock and mourning.

Sources in the area stated that Oforbuike allegedly attacked his mother, Onyemaechi, with a machete before fleeing into a nearby forest. Community youths mobilized, located him in the forest, and apprehended him. Following his capture, he was paraded around the community and subsequently banished, with a stern warning never to return.

In a video that went viral on social media, Oforbuike reportedly confessed to the act, claiming he was motivated by grievances over his mother’s refusal to fulfill certain demands. “I killed my mother because she refused to bathe me and also refused to rent a shop for my brother, who needed funds to start a barbing business,” he said.

The area councillor, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed that over 200 youths participated in the search and apprehension of the suspect. He added that Oforbuike has been handed over to the police for further investigation. Meanwhile, the deceased’s remains have been taken to a morgue as the community continues to come to terms with the tragedy.
