Outrage in Diaspora: Two Nigerians Brutally Killed in South Africa, Group Demands Justice
The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) has strongly condemned the reported killing of two Nigerian nationals, Mr. Austin Amarachukwu from Imo State and Mr. Owolabi Ayotunde from Lagos State, in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.
According to a statement obtained by iReporter Online, NICASA President Frank Onyekwelu expressed profound sorrow and outrage over what he described as the senseless and brutal loss of life. The association stated that the full details surrounding the deaths were still unclear at the time of the announcement.
Onyekwelu called on both the Nigerian and South African governments to ensure a thorough investigation, insisting that the perpetrators be brought to justice without delay. He described the killings as “barbaric” and stressed that such acts must not go unpunished, adding that the victims’ families deserve answers and closure.
While urging Nigerians residing in South Africa to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, the association cautioned against any form of retaliation. NICASA reaffirmed its commitment to peace and cooperation, emphasizing that diplomatic and legal avenues remain the best path toward justice.
The association disclosed that Nigeria’s High Commission and Consulate in South Africa were actively engaging with law enforcement authorities to monitor developments, offer support to the bereaved families, and push for justice.
NICASA also confirmed that it would continue liaising with police authorities in KwaZulu-Natal through its regional leadership to ensure consistent follow-up on the case.
The association concluded by honoring the memory of the deceased and reaffirming its commitment to protecting the lives, rights, and dignity of Nigerians living in the South African diaspora.
