NDLEA Unleashes Statewide Raids in Kano, Seizes Weapons and Hard Drugs

According to Ireporter Online, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Strategic Command in Kano has apprehended 49 suspects in a major crackdown on drug-related offences across key locations in the state. The arrests were made during coordinated raids on August 7 and 8, aimed at dismantling notorious drug hubs and disrupting the networks of dealers fueling illicit trade in the region.

The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, disclosed that the operations targeted areas including Massallacin Idi, Fagge Plaza, Kofar Mata, Kofar Wambai, Kofar Dan’agundi, Makabartar Dan’agundi, Ladanai, Zage, and Tashar Rimi at Rimi Market. Additional arrests were carried out at Kano Line Motor Park and Tashar Rami Motor Park in Na’ibawa.

Recovered items included cannabis sativa, Pregabalin, diazepam, codeine syrup, Rohypnol, “suck and die”, rubber solution, as well as locally made weapons. The NDLEA Commander in Kano, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, stressed that the raids formed part of a sustained campaign to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking, noting that the upgraded “strategic command” structure had significantly boosted operational reach and effectiveness.

Idris-Ahmad praised NDLEA Chairman, Retired Brigadier General Mohamed Buba-Marwa, for his leadership and unwavering commitment to achieving a drug-free Nigeria. He warned individuals engaged in drug trafficking to abandon their activities, vowing that the agency would relentlessly pursue offenders until they are brought to justice.

The suspects are currently under investigation and will face prosecution upon completion of the process. Authorities reaffirmed that no individual or group is beyond the law in the ongoing war against illicit drugs.
