Vice President Kashim Shettima has paid glowing tribute to the late Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (rtd), describing him as a revered monarch whose legacies of service and leadership will be remembered for generations.

Speaking on Friday at the funeral ceremony organized by the Kebbi State Government in Zuru, the Vice President, who led the Federal Government delegation, extended President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the government, people of Kebbi State, and the bereaved family.

According to iReporter Online, Shettima highlighted the critical role traditional institutions play in sustaining peace and unity across Nigeria, noting that the late Emir exemplified this role with great distinction.

“I am here at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to personally convey his deepest condolences to the governor of Kebbi State, the immediate family of the deceased, the entire people of Zuru, and indeed all Nigerians over this great loss.

“It is a sad day for the nation, for Kebbi State, and for all Nigerians as our royal father is laid to rest. His legacies will endure because he dedicated his entire life to serving the nation and humanity.

The remains of the late Emir, who passed away in London on Saturday, August 16, after a protracted illness, were laid to rest in a private garden within his residence in Zuru, in line with his wishes. Officers and men of the Nigerian Army rendered full military honours in recognition of his service as a retired senior officer.

Dignitaries at the solemn ceremony included Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris; the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III; the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II; former Niger State Governor, Sani Bello; Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Sununu; former Interior Minister, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd); APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, alongside traditional rulers and other distinguished personalities.
