Super Eagles Have What It Takes To Win In Bloemfontein – Nwabali Declares
Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has voiced confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to claim victory against South Africa when both sides meet today in Bloemfontein in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Super Eagles, who currently sit third in Group C with 10 points, trail leaders South Africa by six points after seven matches. With only three games remaining in the 10-match series, Nigeria faces the risk of missing a second consecutive World Cup if results do not improve. So far, the team has managed two wins, four draws, and one defeat.
Despite the uphill task, Nwabali insists that the squad has the quality to deliver, stressing that their recent 1-0 win over Rwanda has boosted their confidence going into the encounter.
“I feel like we have a very strong squad to match any country,” the Chippa United goalkeeper said in an interview with NFF TV. “We respect them because they are doing well by topping the group, but even though it’s going to be a tough game, I believe we will come out strong. Every game has its own plan, and when it comes to Nigeria, it’s always a different approach. I feel we will win that game.”
South Africa currently lead the group with 16 points, followed by Benin Republic with 11, while Nigeria sit third with 10. Only the group winners will secure automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup scheduled to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
