Northern Governors Set Date For Emergency Security Summit Amid Rising Violence

The governors of the 19 northern states are set to gather in Kaduna on Saturday, November 29, for an emergency meeting aimed at addressing the escalating insecurity across the region. According to Ireporter Online, the planned summit was confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Nasarawa State Governor, Peter Ahemba, during a telephone conversation with journalists on Friday.

Ahemba disclosed that the session would also feature the participation of prominent traditional rulers, who are expected to provide strategic guidance as key custodians of grassroots intelligence. He noted that the gathering seeks to establish a unified strategy to confront the persistent security challenges destabilizing the region.

The Nasarawa governor’s aide expressed optimism that the meeting would produce substantial and actionable resolutions. He further revealed that Nasarawa State had already convened its own emergency security session in preparation for the regional summit, stressing that the move was part of proactive efforts to avert potential threats.

Ahemba urged residents to support government initiatives by supplying timely and credible information to security agencies. He emphasized the critical role citizens play in helping authorities identify individuals or activities that may pose security risks.

The emergency gathering comes as northern states grapple with recurrent banditry, widespread kidnappings, and communal violence, heightening calls for a more coordinated and decisive regional response.
