World Rings In 2026 With Fireworks, Music, And Global Celebrations

According to reports, people around the world welcomed 2026 with a mix of fireworks, music, and hopeful celebrations. The New Year arrived first in Pacific islands near the International Date Line, including Kiritimati, Tonga, and New Zealand.

In Sydney, Australia, the city kicked off 2026 with a spectacular fireworks display along its harbour. The show featured around 40,000 pyrotechnic effects spanning more than seven kilometers and included a waterfall effect from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The event took place under heightened security following a recent attack in the city that claimed 15 lives. A minute’s silence was observed at 11 p.m., and the Harbour Bridge was illuminated in white with a menorah projected onto its pylons.

Seoul, South Korea, witnessed thousands gathering at the Bosingak bell pavilion, where a bronze bell was struck 33 times at midnight in accordance with Buddhist tradition. The chimes are meant to dispel misfortune and welcome peace and prosperity for the year ahead.

In China, celebrations took place at the Great Wall’s Juyong Pass, where revelers donned festive headgear and waved signs marking the Year of the Horse, set to begin in February. Meanwhile, Hong Kong replaced its traditional fireworks with a light show themed “New Hopes, New Beginnings,” following a tragic apartment fire last November that claimed 161 lives.

Croatia began its celebrations early in the town of Fuzine, where locals have observed a noon countdown since 2000. Crowds cheered, toasted with champagne, danced, and some braved icy waters in Lake Bajer.

Preparations were underway in New York for the iconic Times Square ball drop, with security barriers and stages being erected amid subzero temperatures. Similarly, Rio de Janeiro readied Copacabana Beach for its massive “Reveillon” party, aiming to surpass its previous Guinness World Record for the largest New Year’s Eve celebration.

In Kyiv and Moscow, residents observed the New Year amid snowy conditions, voicing hopes for peace after years of conflict. While some expressed concern over the ongoing unrest, others, including children visiting holiday displays, remained optimistic about a more peaceful year ahead.
