Taraba PDP Caretaker Committee Directs SWC To Vacate Party Secretariat

Fresh turmoil has engulfed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State after the newly inaugurated 16-member State Caretaker Committee directed members of the dissolved State Working Committee (SWC) to vacate the party’s state secretariat.

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, the directive was issued on Thursday evening in a statement signed by the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Falack Victor. He stated that the former SWC members no longer have the legal authority to occupy the secretariat following their removal from office, warning that refusal to comply could prompt legal action.

Dr. Victor maintained that continued occupation of the party office after what he described as a lawful dissolution amounts to a violation of due process. He stressed that the caretaker body is operating strictly within the confines of the law, insisting that no individual’s interest supersedes that of the party or constitutional provisions.

He further appealed to party faithful to channel their energies toward rebuilding and repositioning the PDP in Taraba State rather than directing criticisms at the national leadership.

The crisis escalated after the dissolved SWC, in a statement dated February 24, 2026, rejected the legitimacy of the caretaker committee. The former executives argued that the committee lacks constitutional backing and accused it of misleading party stakeholders.

In response, Dr. Victor explained that the caretaker committee derives its authority from a judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan. The ruling, delivered on January 30, 2026, by Justice U.N. Agomoh, nullified the PDP convention held in Ibadan on November 15 and 16, 2025, declaring all resolutions reached at the gathering invalid.

He added that the court recognized the National Caretaker Committee as the legitimate body to oversee the affairs of the party and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accord it due recognition.

Dr. Victor emphasized that the primary objective of the state caretaker committee is to restore order and stability within the party’s structure in Taraba, not to witch-hunt any individual. He called on members to shun factional tendencies and rally behind efforts aimed at unity and institutional rebuilding.
