Bola Tinubu Holds Emergency Security Meeting With Service Chiefs Amid Rising Concerns
President Bola Tinubu on Monday convened a closed-door meeting with the nation’s top security chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies at the State House in Abuja, according to Ireporter Online. Those in attendance included the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Naval Staff, Idi Abbas; the Chief of Air Staff, Sunday Anele; the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed; and the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu. Also present was the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, alongside other senior security officials.
Details of the high-level discussions were not disclosed as of press time, but the meeting comes amid a resurgence of violent attacks by insurgents in several parts of the country. It also follows the controversy surrounding a recent Nigerian Air Force airstrike in Borno State’s Jilli Market near the Yobe border, which reportedly resulted in civilian casualties while targeting Boko Haram elements. Although the military has maintained that the operation was aimed at insurgent positions, the incident has sparked widespread concern and criticism, particularly from opposition figures, over the reported loss of civilian lives.
