Laycon: “If I Came Second On BBNaija, My Mum Wouldn’t Have Survived

According to Ireporter Online, Big Brother Naija Lockdown winner, Laycon, has revealed that his mother’s survival was closely tied to his victory on the reality show, stating that winning the competition provided the financial support needed for her medical treatment at a critical time.

Speaking during an interview on the Echo Room podcast, the singer and reality TV star disclosed that his mother was seriously ill while he was in the BBNaija house and was in a life-threatening condition by the time he exited the show. He explained that the prize money from his win went directly into covering her healthcare expenses, stressing that coming in second place would have left him unable to afford the treatment she required. He further stated that, in his view, a second-place finish would have resulted in a tragic outcome for his family.

Laycon also reflected on his transition into the film industry, noting that most of the opportunities he received after BBNaija came as a result of his popularity from the show rather than proven acting experience. He said he often questioned the motivation behind such offers, suggesting that his public profile, rather than his talent, was the primary reason producers approached him, with an aim to boost audience engagement for their projects.

He added that his movement between music, film, and academics has attracted varying public interpretations, with some attributing his decisions to perceived shortcomings in his music career, while others view them as strategic personal and professional growth choices.
