The former P-Square member had earlier stated that he would no longer observe or accept gifts on his original birth date, stressing that the decision was personal and not subject to public approval.

Reacting via his official X account on Tuesday, Okoye expressed surprise at the level of backlash generated by what he described as a private matter. He questioned why individuals were offended by a decision that does not directly affect them, adding that the reaction had been unnecessarily intense.

He said, “Una dey vex like say I cancel Christmas? Na my birthday date I move… no be your own, why e dey pain you? Even Jesus Christ December 25th date sef, people still dey debate am.”

The singer further criticized what he termed misplaced priorities among critics, noting that the attention given to his birthday adjustment was excessive compared to more pressing societal issues.

“Why cry more than the bereaved? Only in Nigeria, funny how my birthday date shift is causing more pain than Nigeria’s real problems,” he added.

Okoye concluded his remarks with a firm message, stating that criticism does not diminish success. “Insult no dey reduce success. Who don make am, don make am! Know that and know peace,” he said.

Peter Okoye rose to fame alongside his twin brother Paul as part of the music duo P-Square, one of Nigeria’s most successful musical groups in the 2000s and early 2010s. The group split in 2015 over management and royalty disagreements but reunited in 2021 before later experiencing renewed tensions over financial and managerial issues.
