Good morning, Nigeria. Several major political, legal and social developments dominated the national conversation on Sunday as parties intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections.

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, the Peoples Democratic Party has dismissed campaign posters portraying former President Goodluck Jonathan as a presidential aspirant in the 2027 election. The party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, described the posters circulating on social media as fraudulent and reaffirmed that Jonathan remains a committed member of the PDP.

In Abuja, the Nigeria Democratic Congress announced that its presidential ticket for the 2027 election has been zoned to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term, with the ticket expected to return to the North in 2031. The party said the arrangement was designed to promote national unity and preserve the principle of power rotation.

Former Rabiu Kwankwaso endorsed the decision, saying the South should complete its turn under the existing zoning arrangement. He urged party supporters nationwide to begin mobilizing ahead of the next election cycle.

At the Social Democratic Party primary, Adewale Adebayo emerged unopposed as the party’s presidential candidate for 2027. In his acceptance speech, he pledged to offer a formidable challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and address the country’s economic and security challenges.

In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara was cleared by the All Progressives Congress screening committee to contest the party’s governorship primary scheduled for May 21. The development has fueled speculation over the political future of the state and the influence of Nyesom Wike.

Similarly, Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat received clearance to participate in the APC governorship primary. He described the screening process as transparent and expressed confidence in the party’s internal democratic procedures.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has called for a judicial inquiry into the disappearance of Abubakar Idris (Dadiyata). He urged authorities to question several former public officials, including Nasir El-Rufai and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, over the unresolved case.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Sadiya Umar Farouq wanted over allegations of abuse of office and diversion of public funds. The agency said she is being sought in connection with a large-scale financial misconduct case linked to social intervention programmes.
