Breaking: PDP Screens 134 Aspirants As Plateau Primaries Near
According to Ireporter Online, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has concluded the screening of three senatorial aspirants and 131 House of Assembly aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The chairman of the screening committee, Tyem Gideon Nanden, made this known while briefing journalists in Jos after the exercise was completed. He stated that those who successfully passed the screening will proceed to the party’s primary elections scheduled for next Wednesday.
Nanden explained that a majority of the aspirants emerged through consensus arrangements, including those contesting the three senatorial districts in the state. He identified the senatorial candidates as Johnbuil Shekarau for Plateau South, Timothy Golu for Plateau Central, and Formson Godson Dalyop for Plateau North, all of whom emerged as consensus flagbearers in their respective districts.
He further noted that aspirants for the House of Representatives also largely emerged through consensus, with the exception of the Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency, where the contest remains open.
The committee chairman disclosed that 131 aspirants are competing for tickets across the 24 constituencies of the Plateau State House of Assembly, expressing optimism that the party would conduct peaceful primaries across the state ahead of the 2027 polls.
He also revealed that five governorship aspirants from Plateau State are currently undergoing screening in Abuja. The aspirants include Kefas Wungak Ropshik, Sarpya Danielo, Sunday Biggs, Alfred Dapal, and Alex Ladam.
Speaking on internal party matters, Nanden dismissed claims of factional divisions within the PDP, insisting that the party remains united under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.
He maintained that no rival faction would be recognized in the forthcoming elections, stressing that the PDP, as recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, remains intact and cohesive.
