According to Ireporter Online, former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.

The former governor was received on Wednesday at the APC secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area, where he officially completed his registration with the ruling party. He was welcomed by the APC State Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, alongside the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, amid a large turnout of party supporters.

Mimiko, who served as governor of Ondo State from 2009 to 2017, had earlier in April announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), putting an end to months of speculation about his next political move.

Before his time in the PDP, he was a key figure in the Labour Party (LP), where he held influential roles at both state and national levels, shaping major political developments within the party.

Party sources disclosed that his return to active partisan politics followed a period of political quiet, during which he reportedly maintained strong influence through loyalists and established structures across Ondo State.

APC insiders have described his defection as a strategic boost for the party, noting that his experience and grassroots support base are expected to strengthen the APC, particularly in the Ondo Central Senatorial District.

A close aide and former spokesperson to Mimiko, Akinsola, also confirmed the development, stating that arrangements had been concluded for his formal reception into the party.
