Mimiko Opens Up On Why He Dumped His Former Party For APC

According to reports, Mimiko was received into the ruling party on Thursday at the APC Ward 7 Secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. His defection comes weeks after he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party in April.

The former governor, who led Ondo State from 2009 to 2016, said his decision was motivated by what he described as significant progress under the Tinubu administration and his desire to contribute to efforts aimed at promoting peace, national development, and economic growth.

Mimiko specifically praised the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, describing it as a major step toward expanding access to higher education. He also commended the Federal Government’s push to decentralise policing, noting that the ongoing efforts toward state police align with his long-held views on security reform.

Welcoming him into the party, the Ondo State APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, described Mimiko as a longstanding progressive and said his entry into the APC represented a return to his political roots.

The event was attended by top APC leaders, members of the Ondo State Executive Council, and principal officers of the state House of Assembly.
