Ekweremadu’s Mother-In-Law Passes Away At 95

According to Ireporter Online, Monica Okah, the mother-in-law of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has passed away at the age of 95.

The Okah family confirmed her death in an obituary released on Wednesday and signed by Isaac Okah, stating that she died on March 20, 2026, and is scheduled to be laid to rest on May 28.

The family described the late matriarch as a devout Christian, bridge builder, mentor, community leader, and a woman known for her generosity, hard work, and service to humanity. She is survived by nine children, including Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of the former Deputy Senate President.

Burial arrangements indicate that activities will commence on May 25 with a service of songs at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Trans Ekulu, Enugu, followed by a wake and requiem mass at her country home in Enugu-Agu Achi, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State. Her interment is scheduled for May 28 after a funeral service at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Enugu-Agu Achi, while a thanksgiving mass will hold on May 31 at the same church to conclude the funeral rites.

Prominent political figures, including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, have expressed condolences, describing her as a woman who lived a life of selfless service, peace-building, and community impact. They praised her legacy of compassion, leadership, and devotion to humanity.

Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, also paid tribute, highlighting her enduring influence, resilience, and commitment to family and society.
