Activist Justice Crack Released From DSS Custody
Human rights activist and blogger, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) after spending days in detention over alleged cybercrime-related offences linked to a viral video concerning the Nigerian Army.
According to Ireporter Online, his release was confirmed on Thursday night by activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who announced the development on , describing the detention as unjust and unlawful. Sowore stated that Chidiebere had finally regained his freedom, adding that the outcome reflected the efforts of individuals who spoke out against his continued detention and demanded justice.
Sowore also alleged that despite the activist meeting key bail conditions, there were attempts by the DSS to delay his release, including the withholding of his international passport, which he said complicated the final administrative processes.
Chidiebere had earlier been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on May 18, 2026, in the sum of ₦5 million, with one surety in like sum. Presiding Judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, imposed strict conditions for the surety, including residency within the court’s jurisdiction, verifiable residential documentation, and proof of stable federal civil service employment not below Grade Level 15, alongside salary records, authentication letters, and an affidavit of means.
The court also ordered Chidiebere to deposit his international passport as part of the bail conditions.
