List Of APC Governorship Candidates Who Have Emerged For The 2027 Elections

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, many first-term governors successfully secured the party’s tickets to seek re-election, while a number of outgoing governors also succeeded in positioning their preferred successors through consensus arrangements adopted in different states.

Among the governors who emerged unopposed as APC candidates for the 2027 governorship elections are Dauda Lawal in Zamfara, Umaru Bago in Niger, Dikko Radda in Katsina, Nasir Idris in Kebbi, Ahmad Aliyu in Sokoto, Sheriff Oborevwori in Delta, Uba Sani in Kaduna, Umo Eno in Akwa Ibom, and Umar Namadi in Jigawa State.

In other states, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Olamilekan Adeola in Ogun State, Kingsley Chinda in Rivers State, and Mustapha Gubio in Borno State emerged as consensus candidates for the party.

In Rivers State, the emergence of Chinda followed the withdrawal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Tonye Cole and Dakorinama George-Kelly from the governorship contest, leaving him as the sole aspirant.

Despite the smooth outcome recorded in several states, the primary elections were reportedly marred by controversies and disruptions in Oyo, Kwara, Bauchi and Taraba states.

Reports indicate that the APC national leadership halted the governorship primary election in Kwara State midway through the exercise and subsequently rescheduled it for Friday.

In Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas faced stiff opposition from former Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, who demanded a transparent and credible process.

Similarly, former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, rejected the conduct of the primary in Oyo State, alleging intimidation, manipulation and falsification of results in some parts of the state.

Party members in Bauchi State also raised concerns over alleged attempts to impose a governorship candidate, insisting on a free, fair and competitive exercise.

Following the challenges encountered during the process, the APC leadership postponed the governorship primary election in Bauchi State to Friday. The party also approved the rescheduling of the State House of Assembly primary elections for Maradun I and Maradun II constituencies in Zamfara State to Sunday, May 24, 2026.

The developments were confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who stated that the decisions were approved by the party’s National Working Committee after consultations with relevant stakeholders to ensure transparent, orderly, peaceful and credible primary elections.
