APC Conducts Primaries To Select 2027 Presidential Candidate

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, approximately 14 million registered party members are expected to take part in the exercise across 8,809 wards nationwide.

The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, recently revealed during a media interaction that the ruling party’s membership strength is approaching 14 million, with nearly half of the members falling within the youth demographic aged between 18 and 35 years.

Yilwatda noted that the party prides itself as one of the most youthful political platforms in the country, stressing that young Nigerians account for about 49.6 per cent of its total membership.

President Bola Tinubu and Osifo Stanley are the two aspirants contesting for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Saliu Danladi, has secured victory in the APC governorship primary election in Kwara State.

Election results released by the party’s primary committee showed that Danladi defeated 14 other aspirants after polling 94,990 votes in the exercise conducted on Friday.

His closest challenger, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, garnered 41,700 votes, while Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa received 22,118 votes.

The governorship primary was initially scheduled for Thursday before it was rescheduled to Friday by the party leadership, which cited logistical challenges for the sudden adjustment.

Political observers noted that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had earlier shifted support from Ambassador Seriki and endorsed Danladi as his preferred successor.

Danladi, who is from Kwara North, was eventually declared winner by the chairman of the APC primary election committee, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
