According to Ireporter Online, the Labour Party (LP) has exempted Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, from its governorship screening exercise ahead of his bid for a second term in office.

The development was disclosed by the National Chairman of the party and head of the screening committee, Senator Nenadi Usman, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the party’s screening exercise for aspirants.

Usman revealed that the party had already procured nomination forms for Governor Otti and granted him a full waiver from the screening process. She explained that the decision was taken in recognition of his position within the party and his performance in office.

According to her, the Labour Party did not expect the governor to pay for the nomination forms, describing him as a key leader and major representative of the party. She added that the forms were formally presented to him alongside those of other aspirants during a ceremony organized by the party.

Usman further questioned the necessity of subjecting the party’s leading figure to a standard screening process, noting that a waiver had been approved and implemented accordingly.

The party leadership said the gesture was based on Otti’s performance in governance and his role in promoting the ideals of the Labour Party. It added that the decision was aimed at encouraging him to continue delivering what it described as quality leadership and good governance in Abia State.
