Veteran journalist and media personality, Dele Momodu, has extended an apology to former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, following controversy surrounding comments linked to the ongoing political debate within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to reports, Momodu reacted after claims emerged that he had verbally attacked the former Rivers State governor over his remarks concerning former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Amaechi had earlier criticised Atiku for allegedly opposing the zoning arrangement ahead of the 2027 presidential race. During an interview, the former governor expressed confidence in his chances of clinching the ADC presidential ticket, dismissing suggestions that the party could adopt a consensus candidate.

Reacting during an appearance on Channels Television, Momodu urged Amaechi to remain calm and avoid making confrontational remarks towards Atiku, whom he described as a respectful political leader.

He stated that anyone aspiring to lead the country must demonstrate restraint in both attitude and conduct, stressing that there was no need for attacks against the former vice president.

Despite the clarification, Amaechi’s supporters reportedly interpreted Momodu’s comments as disrespectful and offensive.

In a follow-up message shared on his account alongside photos of himself and Amaechi, Momodu clarified that he never intended to insult the former minister. He described Amaechi as a friend and brother, explaining that his earlier remarks were only aimed at appealing for mutual respect among political allies.

Momodu further praised Atiku as a gentleman who continues to show respect to people around him regardless of age differences, adding that his comments were made sincerely and in the spirit of honest friendship.
