Spyro Calls Out Nigerian Pastors Over Silence On Insecurity

According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian singer Spyro has publicly criticized religious leaders in the country over what he described as their silence amid worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and rising tension affecting citizens nationwide.

The singer expressed concern in a video shared on his Instagram page, questioning why many churches and mosques continue their regular activities while Nigerians grapple with fear, hunger, and instability. He said he had initially delayed speaking out, hoping that prominent religious figures would take a stronger stance on the situation confronting the nation.

Spyro argued that places of worship should be actively addressing national challenges in their sermons and teachings, insisting that religious platforms should not ignore the realities faced by ordinary citizens. He maintained that both churches and mosques failing to speak on the country’s problems were not fulfilling their responsibility to the people.

He specifically questioned the silence of several prominent Christian leaders, including Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor William Kumuyi, and Pastor Jerry Eze, asking why they had not been more vocal on the issue. He also extended his criticism to Muslim clerics and scholars, wondering why influential Islamic leaders had not publicly addressed the hardship and insecurity in the country.

The singer further described the current state of the nation as one that requires urgent and serious intervention, questioning why schools and other normal activities were still operating despite widespread challenges. He called for stronger national conversations and what he described as a “state of emergency” mindset in addressing the situation.

Spyro, in his remarks, said he expected religious leaders to play a more active role in speaking for the people and engaging the government on issues affecting citizens, stressing that continued silence from influential voices was deeply concerning.
