According to Ireporter Online, legal counsel to Nigerian singer Simi has disclosed that she and her team have examined more than 5,000 tweets allegedly linked to sustained online trolling and harassment directed at the artist.

The singer’s lawyer, entertainment business executive Oyinkansola Fawehinmi, popularly known as Foza, made the revelation while appearing as a guest on the JayOnairLive show, where she strongly condemned what she described as prolonged bullying and coordinated attacks against Simi and her husband, singer Adekunle Gold.

She expressed concern over the nature of the alleged harassment, questioning why such targeted attacks were directed at the singer during her pregnancy, stressing that the situation was emotionally and mentally distressing.

Fawehinmi stated that the review of online posts showed a sustained pattern of hostility, alleging that the intention behind the actions was to break the singer psychologically.

She further explained the legal distinction between defamation and harassment, noting that while defamation often involves isolated statements, harassment refers to repeated and coordinated conduct that can have serious real-life consequences, especially for public figures.

According to her, such online behaviour often spills into professional consequences, including brand pressure and reputational challenges, as celebrities are frequently forced to defend themselves against widespread allegations and narratives.

She also raised broader concerns about cyberbullying in Nigeria’s digital space, particularly on platforms such as X, warning that anonymity and online monetisation can embolden individuals to engage in harmful and potentially dangerous behaviour.
