Late Barkindo Was A Worthy Ambassador of Nigeria

In a letter to the family of the late OPEC scribe, by the Petroleum Ministry and signed by the minister,

Sylva further described the late “Barkindo as worthy ambassador of our great country Nigeria” adding that “his contribution to the global energy space will be difficult to match.”

In this time, Sylva said the ministry and the Nigerians “share your grief and pray that the Almighty Alllah will grant him eternal rest and his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

May Almighty Allah obliterate his short oming and grant him Wljannat Fidaus-Amen,” the letter read.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Barkindo’s death had sent shock waves across Nigeria with many taking it as one of those stunt by online outfits seeking to attract views to their site.

However, in a tweet on his official Twitter handle, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari, confirmed Barkindo’s death in the early hours of Wednesday.

Kyari said the former NNPC GMD died at about 11pm on Tuesday, describing his demise as a great loss to his family, NNPC Nigeria, OPEC and the global energy community.

“We lost our esteemed Dr Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo. He died at about 11 pm yesterday 5th July 2022. Certainly a great loss to his immediate family, the NNPC, our country Nigeria, the OPEC and the global energy community.

“Burial arrangements will be announced shortly,” Kyari said.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari had described the outgoing OPEC Secretary General as a worthy ambassador of Nigeria when he received him in at State House in Abuja.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President said posterity would remember Barkindo kindly for making the nation and himself proud during his six years of meritorious service at the helm of affairs as the 4th OPEC Secretary-General from Nigeria.

Dr. Muhammad Sanusi Barkindo died at the age of 63.
