2027: Akpabio Takes Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” Campaign To Northern Nigeria

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has intensified his advocacy for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, urging Northern youths to support the administration’s economic reforms and policy continuity.

According to Ireporter Online, Akpabio made the appeal on Saturday when he received a delegation from the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly in Abuja.

The Senate President described the removal of fuel subsidy and reforms in the foreign exchange market as difficult but necessary measures aimed at addressing longstanding challenges within the Nigerian economy.

Akpabio argued that the reforms had reached a critical stage and were beginning to deliver positive indicators, including improved revenue collection, increased investor confidence and renewed interest from international partners.

“I stand before you not merely as a politician, but as a public servant committed to the prosperity of our nation, and particularly this vital region,” Akpabio told the youth leaders.

He maintained that the policies introduced by the Tinubu administration were designed to address structural weaknesses and unlock Nigeria’s economic potential.

The Senate President acknowledged that the reforms had initially imposed significant difficulties on Nigerians but argued that they were necessary to redirect government resources towards critical sectors such as healthcare, education and infrastructure.

“While these measures initially posed challenges, they were the surgical procedures needed to redirect resources into healthcare, education, and infrastructure,” he said.

Akpabio also urged young Nigerians, particularly those in the North, to take an active role in governance and national development rather than viewing themselves solely as future leaders.

“You are architects of today, not just leaders of tomorrow,” he told the delegation.

He further said the 10th National Assembly was committed to reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and the rule of law, while urging young people to contribute constructively to the process.

“Your innovation and engagement are the lifeblood of these reforms,” Akpabio said.

He also encouraged the youths to scrutinise information carefully and participate in constructive discussions about government policies.

The Senate President’s comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with the question of policy continuity increasingly becoming part of the debate over the next presidential election.

Speaking on behalf of the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly, its spokesperson, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Musa, commended Akpabio for what he described as efforts to strengthen political understanding between the northern and southern parts of the country.

Dan-Musa praised the Senate President’s engagement with the group and said his approach demonstrated that national leadership should transcend ethnic and geographical interests.

The group also pledged to mobilise at the grassroots to educate Nigerians on what it described as the long-term implications and benefits of the Federal Government’s economic policies.

Dan-Musa stressed that national unity should remain above regional interests, arguing that the country’s stability and sovereignty must take precedence over sectional considerations.

The assembly identified continued engagement with Northern youth groups, grassroots sensitisation on federal fiscal policies and commitment to national cohesion as key areas of its political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
