Adeleke Races Against Time to Deliver on Capital Projects, Edo Hires 5,500 Teachers
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed his urgency in delivering on the capital projects his administration has undertaken. Speaking in Osogbo, the state capital, on Friday during an inspection of the ongoing flyover construction in the Okefia area, Adeleke reassured that these projects would be completed as planned.
The governor was accompanied by the National President of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Mrs. Margaret Oguntala, and her team. Adeleke commended the contractor for adhering to project specifications and ensuring high-quality work.
Edo State Recruits 5,500 Teachers to Boost Education
In a significant move to address the shortage of teachers in Edo State, the state government has employed 5,500 new teachers. This recruitment is in line with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s directive to strengthen the education system in the state.
Ozavize Salami, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), announced the recruitment on Friday in Benin City. She revealed that the new teachers, selected through a rigorous process, will fill gaps in primary and junior secondary schools across the state. Out of 19,931 applications received, 16,038 candidates were shortlisted for computer-based tests and interviews, leading to the final selection.
Tinubu Government to Build 10 World-Class Hospitals and Retrain 120,000 Health Workers
In a bid to enhance Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure, President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to construct 10 world-class oncology and diagnostic centers nationwide. This initiative is part of the newly launched Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) Healthcare Expansion Programme, aimed at complementing existing cancer treatment facilities in federal teaching hospitals.
According to a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President, the program also includes the retraining of 120,000 frontline health workers. This effort is designed to improve the health and social well-being of Nigerians, boost economic development, and establish Nigeria as a healthcare hub within Africa.
Lagos NLC Clarifies Wage Award and Minimum Wage
The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has clarified that the N35,000 wage award recently announced in the state should not be confused with the new N70,000 minimum wage.
Speaking on Friday, NLC Lagos State Chairman Funmi Sessi explained that the wage award is separate from the newly approved minimum wage and called for a new wage structure that reflects the N70,000 minimum wage across various worker categories in the state’s public service.
