The situation began after Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, suggested that Nigerians should focus more on work than vigils to boost productivity. Emmanuel Iren, founder of Celebration Church International, disagreed with Obi’s statement, defending the practice of nightly vigils. Freeze criticized Pastor Iren, suggesting his defense was motivated by financial interests tied to the vigils.

In an Instagram video, Nnani, expressing concern for Freeze, called him a “lost soul” and said he was led by the Holy Spirit to pray for him, asking Christians to join in supporting Freeze and others experiencing church hurt. Nnani emphasized the power of prayer over attacks.

Freeze, in his reply, encouraged Nnani to pray not just for him but also for Iren, implying that they both needed spiritual intervention. He backed Peter Obi’s stance on the matter, stating that Iren’s defense was self-serving and an attempt to justify his business. Freeze added, “Pray for Iren and for yourself. You need it more.”
