Appointed as a special envoy and leader of the Nigerian delegation by President Bola Tinubu in a letter dated February 22, 2024, Senator Akpabio’s pivotal role underscores Nigeria’s deep condolences and unwavering support for Namibia during this time of mourning.
The delegation, which includes Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Zephaniah Jisalo, and Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Ya’u Shehu Darazo, will join dignitaries from around the world to pay their respects to the late President Geingob.
According to the schedule of events, a memorial service will be held at Independence Stadium on February 24, followed by the burial service at Heroes’ Acre, Windhoek, on February 25.
The trip symbolizes Nigeria’s commitment to fostering strong bilateral ties with Namibia and stands as a poignant gesture of solidarity with the Namibian government and its people during their time of loss.
In a statement issued by Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media, Eseme Eyiboh, the delegation’s mission is to convey Nigeria’s heartfelt condolences and renewed assurances of sincere regards to the bereaved nation, reaffirming the enduring bonds of friendship between Nigeria and Namibia.
