During discussions on the allegation in the Senate last Tuesday, Cross River North Senator, Jarigbe Agbom-Jarigbe, stated that some senators received approximately N500 million each for constituency projects in the 2024 budget.
Subsequently, Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, disclosed in an interview with Channels TV on Wednesday that each senator received N200 million for their constituency projects, with higher-ranking senators receiving more than that. However, he did not specify the exact figures they received.
Among the ranking senators in the current 10th Senate who might have received more than N200 million for constituency projects are:
- Godswill Akpabio: The current Senate President and highest-ranking senator in the 10th Senate by virtue of his position. He represents Akwa Ibom North-West for the second term.
- Jibrin Barau: The Deputy Senate President and the second highest-ranking senator after Akpabio. He represents Kano North for the third time in the Nigerian Senate.
- Opeyemi Bamidele: The Majority Leader in the Senate, representing Ekiti Central senatorial district for the second term.
- Abba Moro: Represents Benue North-East and has been in the Senate since 2019, succeeding a two-term Senate President, David Mark.
- Ali Ndume: The Chief Whip of the Senate, representing Borno South senatorial district since 2011.
Additionally, while not holding a principal officer position, Ned Nwoko, the lawmaker representing Delta North, revealed in a podcast that he received as much as N1 billion for constituency projects. He mentioned that the amount each lawmaker receives depends on their negotiating power.
