Aliyu Gifts 1,000 Riyals Each to 3,200 Sokoto Pilgrims in Makkah
In a remarkable gesture of goodwill, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has announced a personal donation of 1,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately ₦450,000) to each of the 3,200 pilgrims from the state performing this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Governor Aliyu made the announcement during his visit to the Sokoto contingent in Makkah on Saturday. He congratulated the pilgrims on successfully completing the sacred rites and expressed pride in their orderly and respectful conduct throughout the pilgrimage.
“I deeply appreciate your maturity and decorum in the holy land. You have made Sokoto proud,” he stated.
Aliyu explained that the monetary gift was meant to ease the pilgrims’ return journey and reaffirmed his administration’s enduring commitment to the welfare of all Sokoto citizens—whether at home or abroad.
The governor also commended the leadership of the state’s Amirul Hajj, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo, and the Pilgrims Welfare Agency for their efficient handling of the Hajj operations, which ensured a smooth and organized pilgrimage experience.
He urged the pilgrims to pray for Nigeria, especially for an end to insecurity and other national challenges. “Regardless of the measures we put in place to address insecurity, prayer remains our greatest weapon,” he remarked.
In a solemn moment, Governor Aliyu extended condolences to the families of two pilgrims—Hajiya Hadiza and Bala Jangebe—from Gudu and Shagari Local Government Areas, who passed away during the Hajj. He prayed for their eternal rest and comfort for their bereaved families.
Responding, Amirul Hajj Kwabo expressed gratitude to the governor for his consistent support and praised the dedication of various committees that contributed to the successful Hajj experience for Sokoto pilgrims.
Governor Aliyu’s donation and message of encouragement further underscore his administration’s emphasis on supporting the spiritual and social wellbeing of citizens, reinforcing his leadership as one rooted in compassion and community care.
